How do I search for multiple keywords using Boolean AND, OR, & NOT?
Answer
Using AND
Put the word AND between important search words and phrases to focus your search and find results that contain all of those words.
For example, instead of searching like this:
college students sleep academics
Try searching like this:
college students AND sleep AND academics
to find results that include college students, sleep, and academics.
Using OR
Putting OR between words expands a search and will show results that contain either word.
For example, searching this:
college OR university
will include a broader set of results that contain either search word.
Using NOT
Put NOT before a search word to exclude results that contain it.
For example:
Pittsburgh history NOT Steelers
will show items that don't have the word "Steelers" in them.
Setting Boolean Options on the Advanced Screen
In OneSearch, the AND, OR, & NOT are built into the drop down menus on the search form.
