What does a reference librarian do?

Answer

At CCAC our reference librarians teach information literacy and search skills to students and faculty, maintain a collection of resources (including online databases, books, DVDs, magazines, and journals) for the CCAC community, build course guides and other web pages to help people navigate the research landscape, and consult with classroom faculty on open educational resources. A reference librarian writes the answers to these questions, as well!

You'll find one of us at the reference desk at each of the four campus libraries, where we will be happy to answer your questions and help you with your research, or you can make an appointment with one of us for an in-depth research consultation at your convenience.

We offer a variety of services for classroom faculty, including visiting your class to hold instruction sessions on research skills, information literacy and evaluation of resources, and citation styles.

For more information about librarianship as a career, you'll find a great deal of information in Ferguson's Career Guidance Center.
